As we close out World Vegan Month, I’d like to thank you for taking this journey with me. As I look back retrospectively to this past month, I am grateful.
When I committed to shifting to a daily blog post for this month, I knew it would be a challenge; but I truly hadn’t realized the time commitment that I was taking on. But that’s me, I tend to take on tasks that speak to my heart without regard to time management. Then, I start to feel overwhelmed with all that there is to do, and paralysis can set in. I started to feel those rumblings by mid-month and contemplated whether or not I could continue with the daily commitment for another fifteen days or so. But then, something interesting happened to me internally.
I took a breath, went within, and realized how much I had learned by my doing the research that it took for many of the blogs. I got excited. Ideas came flowing regarding what to write about next. And then a shift occurred.
I realized that writing this blog was me doing exactly what I yearned to do, to share my experience, my knowledge, my hope for a better world. I realized that it was about learning to establish and honor my priorities. It helped put so much into perspective. And suddenly, it was no longer a task but rather something that I looked forward to doing every day.
I got to live my passion every day.
I stepped outside of my comfort zone.
I taught two vegan cooking demos (something that I’d never, not ever, done before) to audiences that were equally mixed between veg and omnivores and one where everyone identified as omnivore. I also did a tabling event at the local grade school, where I had the opportunity to chat with families about the benefits of a plant-based diet which segued into what it means to live a vegan lifestyle. I was able to offer them vegan food samples, much to their delight and astonishment that they were, in fact, vegan. Generous donations from VegFund and Field Roast made this a reality. I also had more than enough age-appropriate literature due to the munificence of the American Vegan Society, PETA, and PCRM.
And here I am, at 5:00pm on November 30, feeling pumped while well rested, satisfied and oh-so-ever grateful. I accomplished all that I needed to during this month and am now realizing that that which didn’t get done didn’t really need to get done. All is well here.
While I will resume my weekly Tuesday blog posts, I now know that I am truly capable of sustaining my role as a Certified Vegan Lifestyle Coach and Educator (thanks to the training provided by Victoria Moran’s Main Street Vegan Academy) in a way that is meaningful and still enables me to live life on life’s terms. How awesome is that!
